Carroll Valley

It was another fun weekend of golf at Carroll Valley this year. It was the first year for Gar and Tom and I think they both really enjoyed themselves. Gar especially, since he was a last minute replacement for Freddy which required a reshuffling of the captain’s choice teams which somehow resulted in Gar being on the same team as Jim T. To nobody’s surprise this team with two A players cleaned up. Gar also had the distinction of ending on a high note with a really great tee shot on the par 3 finishing hole, landing it about 4 feet from the pin into a brisk breeze with everyone watching. I had a great time too and was pleasantly surprised to find out I was still in C flight because Bob had originally slated me for B. I also got to play both my morning rounds with Jones who I hadn’t had a chance to golf with at all this year. The head to head duel was good for both of our games on the first day of competition, making us concentrate harder especially on putts in order to answer each other’s pars. Jones has a 4 point advantage due to the handicap difference between us so when he plays well, it’s really hard to get ahead of him in the stableford scoring we use at CV. I shot a respectable 92 with decent stableford points, but Jones played really well too and with the 4 point advantage, he ended up nipping me by one point for the day 1 C-flight 1st place money. I took 2nd place, but liked my chances going into day 2 knowing that I would be in Jones’ group so I could know where I stood relative to the leader at all times. However, day 2 turned out not to be as competitive as I had hoped. The course played much tougher because the wind was really blowing hard. I managed to make a few good saves for bogeys and a couple of rare pars while Jones fell apart and double bogeyed a ton of holes. I shot a horrible 104 but somehow squeezed out 12 stableford points which in those conditions ended up being enough to tie for 1st place money for C flight on day 2. Add my two days’ performances together, and what do you get? This luxurious golf towel:

CVG C Flight Champ

Sweet. 🙂
